PNLIPRP1, también conocida como PLRP1, pertenece a la superfamilia de las hidrolasas AB, la familia de las lipasas. PNLIPRP1 es estructuralmente similar a PLRP2. Sin embargo, estas dos proteínas presentan propiedades funcionales diferentes. PNLIPRP1 puede actuar como inhibidor de la digestión de triglicéridos dietéticos. Carece de actividad lipásica detectable frente a triglicéridos, diglicéridos, fosfatidilcolina, galactolípidos o ésteres de colesterol. PLRP2 hidroliza la grasa láctea con una eficiencia catalítica menor que la de PL. La actividad de PLRP2, mayor en la grasa láctea homogeneizada que en la nativa, se ve influenciada de forma diferente por los ácidos grasos y la colipasa, dependiendo de la escisión proteolítica en el dominio lid.
