El ligando OX40 (OX40L), también llamado CD252, es una proteína de membrana de un solo paso tipo II de la superfamilia de receptores TNF/TNF. OX40L se expresa en células dendríticas (CD), macrófagos y linfocitos B, y se comunica a través de su receptor cognado, OX40, que se expresa principalmente en las células APC. Las interacciones OX40L/OX40 son importantes para la activación y supervivencia de los linfocitos T, así como para la generación de linfocitos T de memoria a partir de linfocitos T efectores activados. La coestimulación OX40L–OX40 induce la activación del factor asociado al receptor de TNF (TRAF) 2, 3 y 5. Se ha demostrado que esta vía prolonga la supervivencia de los linfocitos Th CD4+ efectores y contribuye a la generación de linfocitos T de memoria.
