La sedoheptuloquinasa (SHPK) pertenece a la familia de las quinasas FGGY y se localiza principalmente en el citoplasma. Se expresa con fuerza en hígado, riñón y páncreas. Se expresa en niveles más bajos en la placenta y el corazón, y con una expresión muy débil en pulmón y cerebro. La SHPK cataliza la reacción química: ATP + sedoheptulosa = ADP + sedoheptulosa 7-fosfato. Puede transformar la sedoheptulosa en sedoheptulosa 7-fosfato en presencia de ATP y actúa como modulador de la activación de los macrófagos mediante el control del metabolismo de la glucosa. Además, puede ser inhibida por LPS.
