FKBP7 contiene dos dominios EF-hand y un dominio de tipo PPIasa FKBP. FKBP7 exhibe actividad PPIasa y funciona como chaperonas moleculares. Además, FKBP7 acelera el plegamiento de proteínas durante la síntesis proteica. Se ha demostrado que el complejo Hsp90 en el núcleo une su dominio PPIasa a la dineína citoplasmática, la proteína motora responsable del movimiento retrógrado a lo largo de los microtúbulos.
