La proteína de membrana asociada a los lisosomas 2 (LAMP2) es un componente principal de las membranas lisosomales. LAMP2 es una glicoproteína transmembrana de aproximadamente 110 kDa. La LAMP2 humana madura consta de un dominio intraluminal de 347 aminoácidos (aa), un segmento transmembrana de 24 aa y una cola citoplasmática de 35 aa. El dominio luminal está organizado en dos regiones altamente N-glicosiladas. El empalme alterno genera una isoforma humana de LAMP2 (LAMP2B) con una región luminal yuxtamembrana sustituida, una cola citoplasmática y un segmento transmembrana. LAMP2 por sí misma puede escindir el dominio luminal lisosomal y degradarlo. Con la ayuda de la chaperona HSC73, LAMP2 media la captación lisosomal en complejo con proteínas de carga y es necesaria para la destrucción lisosomal de las vacuolas autofágicas.
