GLUT6 es un transportador funcionalmente no caracterizado que presuntamente participa en respuestas inflamatorias. Los estímulos inflamatorios aumentan la expresión de GLUT6, aunque los ratones deficientes en GLUT6 presentan un fenotipo sutil ante la administración de lipopolisacáridos. La metabolómica y los análisis in vitro muestran que GLUT6 funciona como modulador de la glucólisis en macrófagos inflamatorios. GLUT6 no media la captación de glucosa y se localiza en las membranas lisosomales. Concluimos que GLUT6 es un transportador lisosomal regulado por estímulos inflamatorios y modula las respuestas inflamatorias al afectar el cambio metabólico en los macrófagos.
