La dipeptidasa 1 (DPEP1) es una enzima de la membrana renal que pertenece a la familia de las peptidasas M19. DPEP1 es un homodímero y es inhibida por la L-penicilamina. DPEP1 hidroliza diversos dipéptidos y participa en el metabolismo renal del glutatión y sus conjugados. DPEP1 es responsable de la hidrólisis del anillo betalactámico de antibióticos como el penem y el carbapenem. DPEP1 puede desempeñar un papel importante en la regulación de la actividad de los leucotrienos. La expresión de DPEP1 en el cáncer es significativamente mayor que en el tejido sano. Sin embargo, su expresión disminuye con la diferenciación patológica y las metástasis ganglionares y a distancia.
