La proteína similar a Bcl-2 2 (BCL2L2) pertenece a la familia Bcl-2. BCL2L2 se expresa ampliamente en el cerebro, la médula espinal, los testículos, el páncreas, el corazón, el bazo y las glándulas mamarias. BCL2L2 es una proteína periférica de membrana que contiene tres motivos: BH1, BH2 y BH4. El motivo BH4 parece estar involucrado en la función antiapoptótica. Los motivos BH1 y BH2 forman un surco hidrofóbico que actúa como sitio de acoplamiento para el dominio BH3 de algunas proteínas proapoptóticas. BCL2L2 promueve la supervivencia celular y bloquea la apoptosis inducida por dexametasona. Además, BCL2L2 media la supervivencia de las células de Sertoli postmitóticas al suprimir la actividad promotora de muerte de BAX.
