B4GALT4 presenta una alta expresión en el corazón, la placenta, el riñón y el páncreas; su expresión es baja en el cerebro, el colon, los pulmones, el músculo, los ovarios, los testículos y el útero. La función de B4GALT4 es responsable de la síntesis de oligosacáridos complejos ligados a N en numerosas glicoproteínas, así como de las fracciones de carbohidratos de los glicolípidos.
