El antígeno carcinoembrionario M2A (D2-40) es una sialoglicoproteína ligada a O de 40 kDa que actúa como marcador selectivo del endotelio linfático en tejidos normales y lesiones vasculares. El D2-40 se expresó en la superficie de células espermatogénicas, tumores de células germinales, células endoteliales linfáticas y células mesoteliales en el testículo, así como en la superficie de células mesoteliales y células germinales primordiales. Diversos estudios han demostrado que el D2-40 se tiñe en el endotelio linfático, pero no en los capilares adyacentes. Se utiliza habitualmente para marcar el endotelio linfático en tejidos, lo cual resulta útil para el diagnóstico de tumores de células endoteliales linfáticas y para determinar la invasión linfática y la metástasis en otros tejidos tumorales.
