C14orf2, también conocida como MP68, es una proteína mitocondrial de 58 aminoácidos que pertenece a la familia de los proteolípidos mitocondriales pequeños. El gen que codifica MP68 se asigna al cromosoma 14, que alberga más de 700 genes y constituye casi el 3,5 % del genoma humano. El cromosoma 14 codifica el gen de la presinilina 1 (PSEN1), uno de los tres genes clave asociados con el desarrollo de la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA). El gen SERPINA1 también se encuentra en el cromosoma 14 y, cuando es defectuoso, causa la deficiencia de α1-antitripsina, un trastorno genético que se caracteriza por graves complicaciones pulmonares y disfunción hepática.
